Hello. It’s been awhile. Things have been very busy for me the past several months and, quite frankly, I haven’t had much time to think about writing let alone write anything.

Well, today is different. I got inspired by a friend who is in a difficult marriage and wanted to share something for those of you in the same type of situation as my friend.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

My friend is in a very difficult marriage. My friend is the adult in the relationship, doing the hard work to build a marriage, and my friend’s spouse isn’t interested in being an adult or having an adult relationship. A few years ago my friend realized the truth in the prayer above. They couldn’t change the person they were married to but they could change themselves and that’s what my friend did.

My friend admits that it is difficult but my friend has sought support, found tools, and learned to rely on God. My friend works to be a good Christian spouse even while the person they are married to refuses to try. I’m sad for my friends situation but I do not pity my friend. You cannot pity this person. They will not allow it. I admire my friend. I admire my friends strength, commitment to their marriage and spouse and I admire their faith.

My friend shares freely what they’ve learned with those willing to learn. My friend shares with those in the support group, to others in the church they attend and in an on-line marriage ministry.

My friend is a inspiration to me and a help to others. My friend has taken the pain of the situation and used the lessons to help and inspire others. My friend is a real grown up.
