There is an old saying that a person can be so heavenly focused that they are of little earthly good. In other words, their focus on appearing proper, modest, or righteous makes them of little earthly use. They are too easily offended and when offended they are overly offended. Typically they aren’t much fun and they tend toward controlling. They are definitely prudish.

Let me say that there is nothing wrong with being heavenly focused, there is an issue when you allow every little thing to offend you, or you hold other people to unrealistic standards. When your heavenly focus begins to interfere with your everyday relationships it has perhaps gone too far.

How does this happen? One becomes so focused on seeming proper, modest, or righteous that they lose focus on what is important to building relationships: speaking honestly with one another, being intimate and just having some fun. Prudishness is not an environment that fosters intimacy. Prudishness fosters control.
